Ceramic Coffee Jar in the Shape of a Coffee Sack

This ceramic coffee jar features an original design inspired by a sack of coffee beans tied at the top, as if freshly filled and carefully closed by hand.

Its lightly textured surface recalls the fabric of a traditional coffee sack, while the glossy glaze in warm amber-brown tones evokes the rich colour of roasted coffee beans. Around the base, delicate embossed coffee beans reinforce its authentic and thematic character.

The lid, sculpted as a natural continuation of the tied sack, blends perfectly into the design and enhances the illusion of a living object, almost ready to be opened.

This piece comes from a small workshop located in Central-West Portugal, in the Estremadura region. Its design is characteristic of what is known as Caldas da Rainha ceramics, whose most famous creator is Bordallo Pinheiro.

The moulds used in this workshop have been passed down from generation to generation, and the current owner still works today with moulds inherited from his grandfather. Every piece is carefully handmade in very limited quantities.
