Tomato, escabeche, lemon or simply olive oil: 4 tins that allow you to discover the fantastic Portuguese sardine preserves from the Tricana brand, the famous sardine tins traditionally sold in the small grocery store near Praça do Comércio in Lisbon.

The quality of these preserves comes from the use of real and authentic Atlantic sardines, the "Pilchardus" sardines. It also comes from the traditional Portuguese preparation method by which the sardines are selected and prepared by hand, one by one, are pre-cooked and then canned in their sauce.

What I like

  • The freshness of the sardines, noticeable as soon as the tin is opened.
  • The texture of the sardine, both fleshy and melting.
  • The packaging design, deliciously retro and Portuguese.
  • Ideal for an aperitif with friends.

Content

  • 1 tin of sardines in olive oil.
  • 1 tin of sardines in olive oil and tomato.
  • 1 tin of sardines in olive oil and lemon.
  • 1 tin of sardines in escabeche.

Consumption advice

Vintage sardine preserves do not exist, at least they cannot be sold because all preserves have a shelf life beyond which they must be withdrawn from sale. However, sardines in olive oil can be stored for several years because they improve with age. You can keep them for yourself and consume them later. In this case, the tins must be stored in a dry place, away from light, and must be turned regularly.
