This piece comes from a small workshop in west-central Portugal, in the historic province of Estremadura. Its design is characteristic of the traditional ceramics of Caldas da Rainha, whose best-known name is Bordallo Pinheiro.

The moulds used in this workshop have been passed down from one generation to the next, and the current owner still works with moulds originally used by his grandfather. Every piece is carefully made entirely by hand, and production remains very limited.
