This statuette depicts a nativity scene that combines primary and shimmering colors. It is the most authentic expression of Prazeres Côta's personal world, who shapes clay by representing what she sees around her.
What I like
- An unclassifiable statuette, halfway between craftsmanship and naive art.
- A burlesque evocation of the traditional nativity scene, but always imbued with sensitivity and respect.
- An ultimately very modern work once removed from its original context.

Features
- Unique piece
- Height: approximately 25 cm
- Weight: approximately 0.7 kg
The Côta family is the most charismatic and representative family of figurative art from Barcelos and the Minho region in Northern Portugal.
Prazeres, one of Julia Côta's daughters, now continues the tradition initiated by her great-grandfather, João Domingos Côta da Rocha, creator of the famous Portuguese Rooster (Galo de Barcelos).

Already honored as "Revelation of the Year" at the Barcelos Fair in 2018, the Pottery Museum has just included her in an exhibition "Geração Côta" and presents several of her works belonging to the Museum's collection and private collections.
