"Petingas" are very small, very tender sardines, arranged perpendicularly in their can, 6 to a can (4 units for regular sardines). Here, they are simply prepared in olive oil to preserve their authenticity.
These small sardines are among my favorites. Very tender, meaty, and flavorful, they have nothing in common with the canned sardines usually found in supermarkets. You will never be disappointed by the quality of these sardines because the cannery only uses fresh sardines of excellent quality.

My little tip
A best-before date is always indicated on the cans, but sardines in olive oil can be stored for several years as they improve with age. The cans should be turned over regularly.
