The Barcelos rooster offered here is made and painted entirely by hand, in an artisanal way, in a small workshop located in the countryside of Caldas da Rainha, the cradle of Portuguese ceramics.
He proclaimed his innocence and, to do so, went to the judge. Seeing a rooster in a basket next to him, the accused said: "It is as true that I am innocent as it is that your rooster will stand up and crow when I am hanged!"
The rooster crowed, and the judge rushed to where the man had been hanged. He found that due to the poor tightening of the knot, the man was alive. He was thus considered innocent and released.
