This magnificent Coimbra ceramic amphora immediately draws the eye with its deep blue tones and richly detailed decoration, inspired by nature, foliage and the exotic birds traditionally depicted in the ceramics of the region.

Placed on a console, bookshelf or low cabinet, this amphora can stand alone as a striking decorative piece. Its deep blues pair beautifully with wood, stone, white surfaces and understated contemporary interiors.

Creating each piece requires long, precise and entirely manual work. Every amphora is shaped and then decorated by hand by an artisan painter, who is free to interpret the composition, drawing and colour nuances in their own way.

No two pieces are therefore exactly alike. Each amphora is genuinely unique, signed and documented by the artist who created it.

Why I love it

  • The deep cobalt blue that instantly brings character to a room.
  • The completely freehand decoration: no two amphorae are identical.
  • The artisan's signature, giving each piece the character of a decorative work of art.

Please note

Each piece is entirely hand-painted and signed by the artisan who created it. No design is reproduced identically, and no stencil or tracing is used. The motifs evolve freely from one piece to another, according to the painter's inspiration, gesture and the moment of creation.

It is this creative freedom that makes every piece unique and personal, giving the object its distinctive, expressive character, far removed from standardised production.

More informations?

Coimbra ceramics date back to the 16th century and are produced by workshops traditionally known for their use of cobalt blue, both in monochrome decoration and alongside shades of yellow, green and ochre. This distinctive ceramic tradition, deeply rooted in the central Portuguese city of Coimbra, has been recognised internationally for centuries.
